In my art I fuse modern body theory with that of reliquary art through the formation of surreal figurative creations. By investigating the conceptual discourse around reliquaries as well as the somatic manifestations of memory, I memorialize my own presence through methodical making in clay and explore the idea of finding where the feelings from our past present themselves. To do this I take physical objects connoting protection and devotion and use them to try and manifest a sense of awareness about where we hold or feel our histories in our bodies. It is my hope that the viewer’s perception is shifted into a space that activates their bodily memory. By creating bodies for the viewer to identify with, I invite them to investigate and interact with the sculptures freely, creating space for projected personal memories and associations.
