Melih is an MFA Candidate at Cranbrook Academy of Art, residing in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Born in Istanbul/Turkey, they explore a spiritual journey through Islamic geometric abstraction. Using printmaking as their main medium, they create works that talk about diaspora, assimilation and queering of traditional practices. Their works combine traditional pattern making and a contemporary way of creating editions. They use innovative methods of printmaking and textile arts to create stitched editions and embossed works on paper.
Their works have been exhibited internationally and have has been added to the permanent collections of many organizations. Melih’s stitched editions are currently on view at the Scarab Club’s Gilda Snowden memorial exhibition, Cranbrook Art Museum’s thesis exhibition and Frogman’s Print’s Optical Impermanence series in Iowa.
