This sculptural ceramic vessel was carved out of a solid piece of high iron stoneware. It was then glazed and fired to cone 10 (2350F, 1290C) where it was used as a melting basin for copper pipe. At high temperatures the copper pipe melted, condensed and reduced into the small black mass at the center of the basin.
