These objects are pieces of memory. I am interested in the relationship between clay and felt. Each material has different properties and clay itself holds a great deal of memory: memories of touch, trace, form, and place. The smaller pieces placed on a white table are part of a new and ongoing lexicon and language system. The viewer is not meant to fully understand my lexicon nor the objects; they are meant to be ambiguous which speaks to my own experiences of immigration and being in-between places. The work explores the concepts of displacement and time, body memory versus brain memory, interior versus exterior, etc. The process of making these objects and the repetitive act of sewing are elements of performance grounded in ritual.
