Lisa Farris has been working in clay for many years. Way back in high school, she spent her summers working at a pottery school in rural New Hampshire in exchange for unlimited studio time. This early experience still informs her work: both the inspiration of a natural setting and the strong sense of community that comes from a shared creative environment in a beautiful place. Lisa went on to earn both a BFA and a BA in English from the University of Michigan, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She had a 20-year career as an advertising copywriter and another 20-year career as the mother of three boys. All the while, Lisa continued working in ceramics, taking classes at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center and Chastain Art Center in Atlanta, Georgia and Oakland Community College in Michigan. In 2021, Lisa was awarded a residency at the Hambidge Center in Rabun, Georgia. The intensity and joy of that experience, along with an empty nest, inspired Lisa to pursue her MFA in Ceramics from Cranbrook Academy of Art. As a first-year Ceramics student, Lisa looks forward to further exploring the connections between Human Beings and the natural world.
