    Linocut on paper. Framed Print.

This framed print is about the Annex Garden, Goetz’s site-specific, temporary installation made with approvals from Cranbrook Educational Community’s administration. In the walled, grassy courtyard between The Annex and Lone Pine Road, Goetz proposed a policy which paused all landscaping operations for a year. Interested in the autonomy of the land and the plants within the garden, a marker hanging from a tree branch created the marks on the plate, which were then carved and printed by Goetz. The Annex Garden challenges the way institutions think about gardens and established ecological systems. Edition 1/7

Arno Goetz began by making photographs; throughout 2012-2016, the work he made as a high school student exhibited regionally, nationally, and internationally. Goetz then attended Washington University in St. Louis (WashU), where he made drawings, sculptures, and paintings. In 2018, Goetz lived in Italy and made prints while studying at the Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence. After returning to St. Louis, he continued with the printing press and focused on themes of non-control and chance aesthetics in his practice. In 2020, Goetz graduated from WashU and received his BFA in Fine Art and a minor in Art History/Archeology. After graduating, he returned to Dallas to continue making art. Goetz worked under Barvo, a Texas-based bronze sculptor, and added metals to his knowledge set. After working with Barvo and learning how to operate a large studio, Goetz decided to continue his education. He is currently pursuing his MFA at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in the Print Media department. He studies under Emmy Bright and Cooper Holoweski and graduates in May 2023.
