This work is named after the first concept I came across in my study of Chinese‘ShanShui’ painting, ‘ChangShen’. It refers to the free experience of the human spirit in the landscape, a kind of spiritual liberation, and the ultimate state of existence to which the painter aspires. The work‘ChangShen’is based on my mood notes written during the years of study. The work is trying to return the abstract philosophy of Chinese‘ShanShui’ in words, materials and graphics. Then integrated into a complete visual system, showing the ‘visual mental image’ left by landscape painting in my formative years.
